Finish up at Celadon City and return to Lavender Town. Go into the large tower on the east side of town, and head to the second floor. Your rival is here, and, arrogant as ever, will challenge you to another battle - this time, the Pokemon he has will change depending on who you chose for a starter.

Head up the stairs on the left - make sure you"ve got the Silph Scope with you. The Silph Scope identifies all Ghost Pokemon in the tower so that you"ll be able to fight them. Ghost Pokemon are quite tough to beat, but luckily, Gastly, Haunter and Gengar have a second type, Poison, making them weak to Ground and Psychic attacks.

On the third floor, head north to grab an Escape Rope. Then head south and around, and up the stairs to the fourth floor. The two items immediately in front of you are an Elixer and an Awakening. Head south to pick up an HP Up, and then west to the fifth floor. Here on the fifth floor, a sealed zone in the middle of the room will completely heal your party (HP, PP and Status). This might be a good place to level up your Pokemon if you"re finding the battles tough. There"s also a Nugget to the south; pick this up before advancing to the sixth floor. Here, head south to pick up an X Accuracy, then north and around the gravestones. Pick up the Rare Candy in the way, and try to climb to the roof - you"ll be attacked by a lv30 ghost Marowak (It"s still Ground type, so use Ice, Water or Grass attacks. Don"t bother trying to catch it either, the Pokeball will just miss).

Once it has been defeated, continue onto the rooftop and battle your way through the gauntlet of Rockets. Talk to Mr Fuji at the north end of the passage way, and he"ll lead you back to his house at the foot of the tower, where he"ll give you the PokeFlute, an item to wake up any sleeping Pokemon.

Silph Co.

Make sure you have the Fresh Water you got earlier in your backpack, and enter one of the gatehouses that you couldn"t enter before (ie, go west from Lavender Town). This will open up the four Saffron City gatehouse for you to use later. In Saffron City, you"ll find the Rockets are blocking most of the city"s main buildings. You can however, visit the Pokemon Center and the PokeMart, so do so if you need to. Pick up TM29 - Psychic from Mr Psychic"s house on the bottom row of houses - it"ll come in handy for this next part. Immediately to the left of Saffron Gym is another gym. Here, you must beat the trainers of the Fighting Dojo, and if you manage to do so, you"ll get your choice of Hitmonchan or Hitmonlee. The Karate Master has a lv37 Hitmonlee and a lv37 Hitmonchan.

Hitmonlee
*
A Fighting type with good Attack and good Speed. Learns some solid Fighting moves like Hi Jump Kick and Rolling Kick.
Hitmonchan
*
A Fighting type with good Attack and average Defense and Speed. Although it learns the three elemental punches, its Special isn"t high enough to do much damage.

Now to get rid of all the Rockets. Head to the large building in the center of the city. The Rocket that was blocking the door previously has conveniently dozed off so that you can enter. Once inside the Silph Building, head immediately to the 5th Floor to get the Card Key - this will open up all the sealed doors. Head left and then down past the palm trees. You"ll reach a Rocket standing by a teleport pad:

*

Step on the teleporter and you"ll be transported to another room. Reuse the same teleporter, and you"re back to where you started - and now you can just head down the narrow passway (after beating the Rocket) to collect the Card Key.

Now you can return to the 2nd Floor and begin exploring the entire building. Don"t use any of the teleporters, it"ll just get confusing.2nd Floor: Collect TM36 - Selfdestruct from the lady hiding in the top-left room.3rd Floor: Pick up a Hyper Potion from the far left room by unlocking the two doors.4th Floor: There"s an Escape Rope, Max Revive and a Full Heal in the large room to the left.5th Floor: There"s a Protein in the top-left room, and TM09 - Take Down in the room below it.6th Floor: Grab the HP Up and X Accuracy from the bottom-left room.7th Floor: TM03 - Swords Dance is in the room directly below the stairwell. There"s also a Calcium in the lower-left room.8th Floor: Nothing here except the usual Rockets and Scientists.9th Floor: The lower-left room contains a few beds where you can fully restore your Pokemon. Check the bed on the far left for a Max Potion.10th Floor: There"s a Carbos, Rare Candy and TM26 - Earthquake in the lower-left room.11th Floor: Just a lone Rocket.Once you"ve finished exploring, head back to the 3rd Floor and use the circled teleported pad.

*

This will take you to the inaccessible room on the 7th Floor, where you"ll have to battle your rival again.

After you beat him, talk to the man standing to the side to get Lapras, a good Water/Ice type. Continue on by using the other teleport pad towards the bottom. In the next room, head down, defeat the Rocket and go into the board room. Here you"ll battle Giovanni once again - he has a lv37 Nidorino, a lv35 Kangaskhan, a lv37 Rhyhorn and a lv41 Nidoqueen. Talk to the President at the head of the table, and he"ll reward you with a Master Ball for saving the company. The Master Ball has a 100% success rate of catching a Pokemon, so use it wisely.

Now that Team Rocket has gone, you"re free to explore Saffron City. Go to the top row of houses, and go into the house on the far left (Bring along that PokeDoll you bought earlier - if you haven"t got one, get one from the 4th Floor of Celadon"s MegaMart). Head upstairs and talk to the girl there. She"ll give you TM31 - Mimic in exchange for the PokeDoll.

Sabrina"s Gym is a grid of trainer"s rooms. In each room, there are four teleport pads. At first, it seems daunting, but the sequence is quite simple. If you want to go through all the rooms, beating all the trainers, simply use the teleport pad above you, or below, and you"ll cycle through all the rooms and eventually end up in Sabrina"s room. Alternatively, if you want to go straight to Sabrina, the sequence is (after you"ve used the starting pad): Left, Left, Left, Down.

Even though its a Psychic Gym, the trainers use a mix of Psychics and Ghosts. Psychic has two weaknesses, Bug and Ghost, but a glitch in the game causes Psychic Pokemon to be immune to Lick, the only damaging Ghost Attack (Night Shade bypasses this, however). And the only Bug Pokemon that learn Bug attacks are half Poison, making them very weak to Psychic attacks.

Psychic Pokemon are usually weak in the Defense department, so use a strong attacker to take them out. They have very high Special, so elemental attacks won"t do much damage against them. Don"t forget Kadabra and Alakazam know Recover. As for Venomoth, any Fire, Rock or Flying Pokemon will take care of it.

You"ll be awarded the Marsh Badge when you are victorious, this allows all Pokemon lv70 and below to obey you. You"ll also receive Psywave, an attack that does random damage between 1HP, and 1.5 times your Pokemon"s level (eg, if your Pokemon is lv50, it"ll do damage between 1 and 75).
